Private Detective

Here comes my first entry for the facebook page Character Design Challenge. This month, we had to draw a private detective and mine is a little grumpy chameleon. No mermaids this time and I believe this is the first time I draw an animal on purpose...

I will do this challenge more often as possible. I really think this is a good exercice to draw something else than my usual characters. To be continued next month :)

Statue

I started to work on this animation for more than a month now and I am finally done !

For this final part I had to add some colors in this layout. I already did the little merman last month (you can see this version in here : ready to stand) and after some little changes, I spent two days coloring this unusual background on Photoshop. Then, I used TVPaint for the last details like the shadow and the bubbles.

Subway Princess

Since 2014 - March to be exact - this Princess grew up from my imagination...

Just like every characters in the animated world, she used to have different faces, more or less hair, etc. So I decided to choose an unique design that's why I updated her character.

In a nutshell, I love to do peoplewatching when I am stuck in the subway and, two days ago, I saw the living version of my Princess ! This young woman, in her early twenties, had the same face and body I was thinking for her. I took some notes on my cell... no, no it's not creppy at all !

My Princess of Lyon might change a little bit again, but I think I found something to work with for a little while. She seems more mature than her previous versions and it is the idea I have when I am thiking about her...

Sudden fall

No more mermaids this time. I wanted to do something like that for the little while now. And I just woke up today with this idea of an action scene for my defenceless Princess of Lyon. I always loved scenes like that in movies where characters we love are in a great danger, fighting for their life...

My Princess of Lyon is a character I created and I like to animate her. Even if she does not have a proper story and seems mixed with all the characters I love, I think this is a good thing to use her character to show you my animation skills

The final version will follow. To be continued...

Up where they walk...

Here are some new stuffs... This is still this little merman but I finally drew another background. I loved the challenge that layout represented : on one hand, we have to see the bottom of the ocean and on the other hand, we can see the top of it. And the camera is doing the trick.

This huge man statue reminds me as well a cover I made for one of my webcomics Merman. Here is another version of the little merman and his Prince statue just like the Andersen's fairy tale.

The colored version is coming soon. To be continued...

Ready to stand

I always loved this scene from the Disney's Little Mermaid. The animation is amazing and the lyrics are filled with hope and promisses for this young Ariel. So I decided to create my own "ready to stand" with an all new little merman character.

At first, it took place in an underwater cavern just like the Disney movie but I would like to change it for a new background. Also I think it is a good exercice because of the motion of the camera, we are able to see the bottom and the top of the scene in an unique layout.

Just keep swimming

Even if all the seaweeds are missing, this animation is the first one completly cleaned and finished since the end of my animated short film Humaine

I can't help drawing and animating mermaids. I just love their way to move and swim. I spent a lot of time coloring and redrawing all my sketches and all this work is like a reward for me when I can see this very short animated sequence finally all done and clean.

Long live the Princess

Except mermaids, my Princess of Lyon, named Gaëlle, became my real new obsession for more than a year now. I just couldn't help drawing her all the time, trying to find her personality through some sketches, animations and illustrations. I cut her hair, drew her clothes, thought about her life and story... I have some ideas about what is going to happen to her and it is only the beginning of a long story... To be continued !

Beneath the surface

The Princess of Lyon on one side, I have also a lot of other projects. Including some merfolks indeed... But it's always a pleasure for me to draw sea backgrounds, rocks, seaweeds... Here an all new mermaid animation. To be continued...

Bedtime

Quick animation of Gaëlle, Princess of Lyon before going to bed myself :)

Goodnight/day... depends where you are !
